à la mode not only helped me to secure a job in Toronto, but it also gave me the opportunity to work for one of the leading fashion houses in the world.
When I first started blogging, one of my dreams was to be able to work for Swide, an online magazine created by Dolce & Gabbana. Even though I had that dream, I technically had no idea what I could offer them, until one day in January 2011.
One of my friends was working at Dolce & Gabbana during that time and while I was chatting with him, he asked me if I would be interested in contributing to Swide. That 5 minutes was definitely the MOMENT of my 2011 and of course I said yes. Since the strength of à la mode is the feature section of photographers, illustrators and other artists, I presented the Madame Peripetie feature to him and said I would do something like this for Swide. At that moment, my goal was to bring [Un]Discovers to Swide and magically, it worked!

“How can you not like Madame Peripetie’s works? It’s so surreal and cool!”
My first article was published in February 2011 (and it was about Madame Peripetie!) and ever since, I have the opportunity to connect with many amazing artists around the world. I consider this position to be a blessing because not only do I get to work with the amazing Swide crew, but they also let me curate projects for them. One of the most memorable projects is the Dolce & Gabbana S/S 2012 illustrations. While I am not going to talk about this in detail in this entry, I honestly had a lot of fun curating it. It has created a positive impact to the brand and industry.

“How can you not like this job when you can ask illustrator to dress Superman in D&G?”
Swide team has been like a second family to me and I hope I can continue to do my part and contribute something cool to the online magazine. This position has really opened my eyes to world as I have learnt so much from the fashion industry in Milan. If someone is telling you there is no chance for you to work for an international brand if you live in Toronto, think of my case and it will restore your hope.
